Fatal Andrews shooting death of Ricardo Infante Jr. – Obituary
In Andrews, Texas, a police-involved shooting ended with the death of Ricardo Infante Jr. on the evening of September 13. According to a press release from the Andrews Police Department, Andrews County Sheriff’s Office, and Fire Marshall’s Office, officers were serving a felony arrest warrant for indecency with a child at a residence on the 900 block of West 5th Street when the incident occurred.
When officers approached Infante inside the residence to arrest him, a struggle ensued. During the altercation, Infante used a knife, injuring an Andrews County Sheriff’s Deputy and a Fire Marshall’s Officer. In response, an officer from the Andrews Police Department fired their weapon, striking Infante. Despite first aid being administered to all parties, Infante was pronounced dead at the scene.
The injured deputy was airlifted to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery, which was successful. The deputy is reported to be in stable condition. The Fire Marshall’s officer received treatment at Permian Regional Medical Center and has since been released. Additional officers present sustained minor injuries but were protected by their ballistic vests.
The Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation as per standard procedure. The involved officers and deputies will be placed on administrative leave while the case remains under active investigation.
