Fatal Beaufort shooting death of Arianna Mulligan – Obituary.
The coroner for Beaufort County has identified Arianna Mulligan, a 17-year-old from Beaufort, as the victim in a tragic shooting at an apartment complex in Burton. The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, involved multiple minors being shot in the parking lot of the Magnolia Park Apartments.
Mulligan was pronounced deceased at 12:18 a.m. Monday after being airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina, where she experienced cardiac arrest en route, according to Coroner David Ott. An autopsy was scheduled to take place on Wednesday at the Charleston hospital.
Beaufort County deputies arrived at the scene around 10 p.m. following several reports of gunfire. They discovered three juveniles who had been injured by bullets. While police have not confirmed if the shooting was a drive-by, it is suggested that multiple shooters might be involved.
Mulligan was first taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital before being transferred to MUSC. The coroner did not disclose the number of gunshot wounds she sustained.
As of Monday morning, there were no public updates regarding suspects in the case. The conditions of the other two victims were also not immediately available.
This incident is reportedly the 16th homicide in Beaufort County this year. The current statistics are on track to surpass those of 2023, which was noted for its high number of gun violence-related deaths in the Hilton Head Island area.
The shooting happened roughly six hours before another shooting incident occurred about 10 miles north, at around 4:20 a.m., when a home on Community Center was hit by multiple bullets. No injuries were reported in this second shooting. Authorities have yet to determine if the two cases are related.
