The Lexington County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of a man whose body was discovered in Lake Murray. The body was found floating near the dam close to Irmo around 10 a.m. on Friday, prompting an investigation by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. Crime scene and major crimes detectives were involved in the initial investigation.
The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Darius Marshe Dendy from Columbia. The cause of his death has not been disclosed. Further investigation revealed that Dendy had been in a car accident on Wednesday, with his vehicle subsequently located and recovered from Lake Murray.
By Friday afternoon, the case was transferred to the South Carolina Highway Patrol for continued investigation. Both the coroner’s office and the highway patrol are actively working on the case.
