Fatal McDowell County car crash death of Davonte Conley – Obituary
Early Wednesday morning, a tragic accident on U.S. Highway 221 South claimed the life of Davonte Conley, 32, from Marion. According to N.C. State Highway Patrol Sgt. E.J. Phillips, the collision occurred at 4:50 a.m. near Spooky Hollow Road.
At the time of the crash, a 2023 Kia Sol, driven by Conley, was traveling north on U.S. Highway 221. Simultaneously, a 2010 Ford Fusion was heading south. The Kia veered into the southbound lane, striking the Ford Fusion.
The Kia Sol ended up facing east in the southbound lane, while the Ford Fusion came to rest facing south on the shoulder. Conley was behind the wheel of the Kia. The Ford Fusion was driven by 26-year-old Ty’kawn Williams of Asheville, who was hospitalized with serious injuries at Mission Trauma Center in Asheville.
Both vehicles had no passengers. Sgt. Phillips mentioned that, as of 1 p.m. Wednesday, state troopers had not yet interviewed Williams, and the cause of the accident remains undetermined.
Emergency responders from McDowell EMS, Glenwood Fire Department, and McDowell Rescue attended to the scene. The crash took place just south of Mud Cut Road on U.S. 221 South.
