A tragic accident in Arizona resulted in the death of 16-year-old Franklin High School football player Emmanuel Lopez, along with two others. The Arizona Department of Public Safety (ADPS) reported that Juan Emilio Moreno, 26, from Sunland Park, New Mexico, and Christina Cecilia Sanchez, 34, from El Paso, also lost their lives in the incident that occurred on Saturday, September 14, along I-10 near San Simon.
According to family members, Lopez was traveling with relatives and another individual at the time of the crash. Following the collision, three individuals were taken to a hospital, with one remaining in critical condition.
The incident took place shortly after 5 p.m. when a commercial truck traveling eastbound experienced a tire blowout. This caused the vehicle to cross the median and collide with a westbound SUV.
Reports indicate that three occupants from the SUV were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional passengers were airlifted to the hospital due to serious injuries, while the truck driver was also transported, though details regarding their injuries remain unspecified.
The collision ignited a fire in the truck, according to ADPS.
In response to this tragedy, a GoFundMe page has been established to assist with Lopez’s funeral costs. Community members, friends, and teammates held a gathering at Franklin High School on September 15 to honor Lopez, with an official vigil taking place the following evening.
