Fatal Birmingham shooting death of Isiah Tyson Anthony – Obituary.
Authorities have confirmed the identities of two men who were shot and killed in separate incidents in Birmingham just hours apart on Wednesday. The victims were identified as Isiah Tyson Anthony, 26, and Tyrone Dewayne Hendrix, 27.
Isiah was discovered unresponsive shortly after 5 p.m. in the 1700 block of Laurel Avenue S.W., and despite the efforts of Birmingham Fire and Rescue, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Family members shared that Isiah was looking forward to the arrival of his first child in the coming months.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade indicated that initial findings suggest Isiah was involved in a heated verbal dispute with an unknown individual before the shooting occurred. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had fled the scene.
Not long after, another individual arrived at UAB Hospital, though investigators were uncertain if this shooting was connected to the earlier incident on Laurel Avenue. Family members of Isiah gathered near the crime scene, distraught and awaiting news about their loved one.
Later that night, around 10:40 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire and individuals fleeing from Brother Bryan Park. Officers found Tyrone in the park’s northwest corner, close to 21st Street and 10th Avenue South. Witnesses claimed to have heard shots but did not see the actual event unfold. They called 911 to report the chaos.
Authorities suspect that those seen fleeing may have been involved in the shooting. No arrests have been made in either case.
These tragic incidents represent the 114th and 115th homicides in Birmingham this year, with eight being deemed justifiable and two others occurring in prior years but classified as fatalities in 2024. Jefferson County has recorded a total of 147 homicides, including the Birmingham incidents.
