Derris Deshaun Woods, 35, and his girlfriend, Brittany Hall, 28, were tragically discovered shot to death in their burned home on Cohassett Lane following a fire on September 9. The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office provided further information about their deaths a week after the incident.
Deidere Waters, Woods’ mother, is seeking clarity surrounding her son’s demise. The couple was located in their home, which had been severely damaged and partially collapsed due to the blaze, complicating rescue efforts. Firefighters could only search for the victims after extinguishing the fire.
“We’re both trying to navigate this and seek justice for our families,” Waters shared with FOX 5.
An arrest occurred in Meridian, Mississippi, but the DeKalb County Police Department has yet to disclose the suspect’s identity or details regarding the case.
Waters has made a heartfelt appeal for anyone with information to step forward, as their families struggle with the shocking events.
“Derris was an incredible person—outgoing, helpful, and humorous. He would give anything for others. He was such a kind soul,” Waters expressed.
Waters is at a loss as to why anyone would wish harm upon the couple, noting that neither she nor her son’s friends recognize the suspect currently charged.
“I have no idea who that person is. I’ve never seen them before and can’t comprehend why they would be involved,” Waters lamented.
