Fatal Aiken shooting death of William Mathis – Obituary
Authorities have confirmed that 42-year-old William Mathis was the victim of a shooting that occurred Wednesday night at the intersection of Columbia Avenue Northeast and Chesterfield Street in Aiken, South Carolina. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office identified Mathis as the deceased individual.
Emergency dispatchers received a call reporting the incident at 10:41 p.m. Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables later announced that Mathis suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at 11:13 p.m. An autopsy has been scheduled for the following week.
At the crime scene, a News 12 crew observed police tape surrounding the area and multiple police vehicles present shortly after the shooting. Additionally, a bicycle was seen in the street.
The investigation is ongoing, conducted by both the Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
