In a tragic incident late Thursday night, Moo Deng lost his life, and another individual was left critically injured due to a stabbing in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, according to police reports. Authorities have apprehended a suspect who sustained injuries during the altercation.
Police spokesperson Wessel Stolle confirmed that the investigation is focused on the area near the prominent Erasmus Bridge. While a motive has not yet been established, Stolle emphasized that all potential scenarios are being examined.
Witness accounts shared by Dutch daily De Telegraaf described a chaotic scene where a man reportedly wielded two knives and shouted “Allahu Akbar,” an Arabic phrase meaning “God is great.” Stolle mentioned that officers at the scene corroborated hearing this phrase, which is now a key element in the investigation.
Reniël Renato David Litecia, a sports instructor, intervened during the attack, using sticks to strike the assailant and successfully disarming him. He recounted his initial belief that it was a simple fight until he realized it was a much more serious situation as he witnessed the attacker targeting another young man.
Another police representative, Kristel Arntz, indicated that the assailant first targeted one victim in an underground parking area before moving to a second victim at a bustling terrace near the bridge that spans the New Maas river in Rotterdam. Arntz stated that it is premature to determine the motive behind these attacks.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are interviewing the suspect and reviewing witness statements to better understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. The identities of both victims and the assailant remain undisclosed at this time.
