Des Moines police have arrested a man for second-degree murder following the death of a woman on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency services responded to a medical emergency call at a residence on Capitol Avenue around 5:25 p.m. First responders found 52-year-old Suzette Rae Gums in cardiac arrest with a severe laceration in her lower body that resulted in considerable blood loss, as reported by the police.
Gums was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The suspect, 58-year-old Walter King Bickham, was apprehended at the scene and has been charged in connection with her death.
