In a devastating incident, Akshat Garg, a 23-year-old biker from Dwarka, Delhi, lost his life when his motorcycle was struck head-on by a car driving the wrong way in Gurugram early Sunday morning.
Akshat was riding with a friend, Pradyuman Kumar, who was trailing him on another bike about 100 feet behind. The two had embarked on a journey from different starting points with plans to join a larger group of bikers at Ambience Mall after leaving DLF Downtown.
As they approached a turn on Golf Course Road, near Belvedere Park in DLF Phase II, a speeding Mahindra XUV 300 suddenly appeared from the opposite direction, colliding with Akshat’s motorcycle. According to police reports, both the driver of the car and Akshat had no opportunity to avert the crash. The force of the impact propelled Akshat over the vehicle, resulting in his bike being severely damaged.
Emergency services arrived within five minutes, but doctors at the nearby hospital pronounced Akshat dead upon arrival. Witnesses noted that two men and a dog were inside the car at the time of the accident. Pradyuman recounted his desperate attempts to assist Akshat, who became unresponsive shortly after the collision.
Pradyuman also stated that the car was traveling in a lane designated for fast-moving traffic. He had a GoPro camera attached to his helmet that recorded the incident, but he expressed frustration that the police did not take a copy of the footage despite being aware of its existence.
