A tragic collision between a motorcycle and an SUV occurred Wednesday morning, resulting in the death of the motorcycle’s operator. The incident took place around 6:09 a.m. at the junction of Jonesboro Road and Hodges Chapel Road, as reported by Trooper G.W. Altman from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The investigation revealed that a Dodge Durango, driven by an unknown individual, was heading east on Jonesboro Road when it attempted a left turn onto Hodges Chapel Road. In crossing the center line during the maneuver, the SUV struck Byrd’s motorcycle, which was traveling south on Hodges Chapel Road.
Byrd, 52, from Benson, was thrown from his bike and landed in the roadway. Paramedics from Dunn Emergency Services pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that no alcohol was involved in the crash, and Byrd was wearing a helmet that met state regulations.
Pending charges are anticipated as a result of this incident.
