Macario Ramales, a 17-year-old from Prosser, was killed in a gang-related shooting on the afternoon of September 12 in Sunnyside, WA. According to investigators, Ramales was a passenger in a white Chevy Malibu when a group of teenagers opened fire on the vehicle around 4:20 p.m.
Ramales, a lifelong Prosser resident and student, was shot in the head and was left at Sunnyside Astria Hospital shortly after the attack. He was later transferred to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, where he died two days later.
The suspects in the shooting are 19-year-old Ramon Enrique Abadias and three other teens: Maximilliano Acevedo, Luis Angel Acevedo-Lupercio, and Iker Javier Delgado-Bustamante, all 17. They have been charged as adults with second-degree murder in Yakima County Superior Court after being arrested following a high-speed chase.
Court documents indicate that Abadias was in the backseat of a black BMW when the Malibu approached, and occupants of the Malibu allegedly made gang signs. Delgado-Bustamante is accused of firing first, followed by Abadias and the other teens.
The shooting took place near Rouse and Beckner roads, just outside Sunnyside’s city limits. Witnesses, including several children, reported seeing shots fired from the BMW at the Malibu. Nearby houses and another vehicle were also struck by gunfire.
The suspects were found armed, and police recovered 9mm and 10mm shell casings from the scene. Following the shooting, Sunnyside police attempted to stop the BMW, leading to a chase that ended in a cornfield after reaching speeds of 100 mph. Three of the suspects fled on foot but were apprehended by authorities.
Abadias is being held on $150,000 bail in Yakima County jail, while the other three teens are held in the Yakima County Juvenile Justice Center on $1 million bail each.
