A tragic incident occurred on September 17, 2024, when 38-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Ballentine of Kalamazoo was struck by a vehicle while walking on East Kalamazoo Avenue. At approximately 11:19 p.m., law enforcement responded to the scene near the intersection of East Kalamazoo Avenue and North Edwards Street.
According to authorities, Ballentine was walking in the roadway when the accident happened. Despite immediate medical attention from public safety officers and emergency personnel at the site, she was later transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries the following day.
The driver involved remained at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
