Fatal Myrtle Beach crash death of Gabriel Hernandez Mejia – Obituary.
A 31-year-old man has been charged with two counts of felony DUI following a tragic incident in Myrtle Beach that resulted in the deaths of two individuals. Gabriel Hernandez Mejia was arrested and is currently held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, facing a $2 million bond.
The victims, Thanh Nguyen, 27, and Ha Quang, 37, both residents of Myrtle Beach, were involved in the crash that occurred early on June 9. Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard confirmed their identities.
Police arrived at the scene around 2:35 a.m. and discovered a Honda Civic in a ditch alongside a GMC Sierra. Investigations revealed that Hernandez Mejia had run a red light, colliding with the Civic. Nguyen succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, while Quang passed away on June 22.
At the time of the crash, Hernandez Mejia’s blood alcohol content was recorded at .11, exceeding the legal limit of .08.
