Fatal St. Joseph Township drowning death of Douglas Charles Greyerbiehl – Obituary.

Authorities in Berrien County have confirmed the recovery of a man’s body from Lake Michigan. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office reported that at approximately 4:19 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, they were called to Silver Beach in St. Joseph after someone spotted a body in the water.

 

Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was identified as 69-year-old Douglas Charles Greyerbiehl, a resident of St. Joseph Township.

 

An autopsy was conducted on September 19 at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine, with results still pending. Initial findings suggest that Greyerbiehl’s death was the result of drowning, and investigators do not believe any foul play was involved.

 

The case remains under investigation while awaiting the final autopsy results. Emergency responders from the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety, Medic 1, and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office were all on the scene.
