Authorities have confirmed that Altson Modlin, 27, was killed in an officer-involved shooting Friday morning in Lee County, South Carolina. Modlin was the subject of a manhunt after allegedly shooting a McBee Police officer late Thursday night near McBee High School.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m., when Modlin reportedly fired at Officer Jerriell Wright during a traffic stop. Modlin fled the scene, prompting a pursuit across several counties that ended around 10 a.m. Friday on Ashland Stokes Bridge Road. During the chase, K-9 Meka was fatally shot, and a deputy from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office sustained injuries.
Modlin was reported to have fired at law enforcement officers during the final confrontation. A resident, James Price, mentioned that Modlin came to his house after being shot, seeking help before dying in a nearby cornfield.
