A 36-year-old woman was tragically shot and killed early Friday during a gunfight at an apartment complex in Merritt Island, according to local authorities. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. at the Tropical Manor apartments.
Deputies responded to reports of a loud disturbance and discovered that Smith had been shot. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Initial investigations indicate that the conflict started as a physical altercation in the parking lot, which escalated into gunfire exchanged between two men. Smith, who was nearby but not involved in the altercation, was struck by the gunfire and is believed to have been an unintended victim.
