Ricky Buckhanan was arraigned on Tuesday morning, facing a bond set at $1 million. If he secures bail, he will be monitored via GPS and is prohibited from contacting victims or witnesses associated with the incident.
The deadly collision occurred in Billings at the intersection of Broadwater and 24th Street on September 13. The deceased victims, identified as Michal Shane Rogers, 54, and his mother Shirley Ann Rogers, 78, succumbed to multiple blunt force injuries, with the cause of death ruled as accidental, according to Yellowstone County Deputy Coroner Valerie Juhl.
Buckhanan, 32, is currently detained at the Yellowstone County Detention Center, facing multiple charges, including two counts of negligent homicide and four counts of felony criminal endangerment related to the crash. Additionally, he is charged with obstructing a peace officer. He is also wanted in Mississippi due to violations stemming from a 2016 burglary conviction, for which he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The state is seeking his extradition to face these charges.
Following a domestic disturbance that occurred on September 13 at a church on Broadwater and 29th Street, Buckhanan fled in a vehicle, driving recklessly on the sidewalk before running a red light at the intersection of Broadwater and 24th. He collided with another car, resulting in the deaths of its occupants.
After the crash, Buckhanan attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended near 18th Street. There is currently no information regarding potential alcohol involvement in the incident.
