The Berkeley County Coroner, Darnell Hartwell, has confirmed the identity of the victim in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide incident. Katie Sullivan, 38, from Goose Creek, was pronounced dead at the scene on Keenan Avenue.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of domestic violence involving gunfire just before 10 p.m. on September 23. Upon arrival, they attempted to contact individuals inside the residence and found signs of a struggle.
Entering the home, deputies discovered Sullivan’s body and, during a safety check, found a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The male individual, identified as 31-year-old Michael Scott Vasko, is being treated at a local hospital. Investigations suggest he is a suspect in the case, and charges against him are anticipated as the investigation continues.
