Fatal Des Moines shooting death of Dennis Morris Hawkins Jr. – Obituary.
The Des Moines Police Department has confirmed the identities of two men who were fatally shot in downtown Des Moines on September 15. The victims have been identified as 29-year-old Dennis Morris Hawkins Jr. and 34-year-old Oscar Matthew Marquez Jr.
The shooting occurred around 2 a.m. near the Court Avenue entertainment area during a dispute, as reported by spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek. Both deaths have been classified as homicides, marking the ninth and eleventh such cases in the city this year. A separate shooting on the same day resulted in the tenth homicide near University Avenue.
Officers on foot patrol first heard gunfire and subsequently discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds in the 200 block of Water Street. Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene, while Marquez succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon.
According to Parizek, evidence suggests that the shooting stemmed from an argument among the trio. No additional suspects have been identified in relation to the incident. Police have yet to file any charges connected to the fatalities.
