Fatal Volney shooting death of Cailee Campbell – Obituary.
Cailee Campbell, an Oswego County Sheriff’s deputy, tragically lost her life in a crash while responding to an emergency call, as confirmed by Sheriff Don Hilton. The incident occurred on the morning of September 25, 2024, at the intersection of County Route 176 and Rowlee Road, where the deputy, utilizing lights and sirens, was involved in a collision described as a “T-bone” accident with another vehicle.
Deputy Campbell was transported to Oswego Hospital, where she was declared deceased. The driver of the other vehicle sustained injuries and was taken to Upstate University Hospital, but is anticipated to recover.
Campbell had a career in law enforcement, starting with Onondaga County Corrections from May 2019 until January 2020. She later attended the Onondaga County Police Academy, serving as a Custody Deputy from May 2021 to April 2023, before joining the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy in April 2023. A graduate of Jordan-Elbridge High School in 2009, her loss is deeply felt within the community.
A procession will honor her memory as she is escorted from Oswego Hospital to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Syracuse. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
