Fatal Belton shooting death of Abbigail ‘Grace’ Callaham – Obituary.
A prayer vigil was held for a young mother, Abbigail ‘Grace’ Callaham, who tragically lost her life in a crash on Tuesday, while the father of her child, Thomas Kennedy, remains in serious condition. Both individuals were students at Belton-Honea Path High School and had just been dismissed early from class.
According to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, the incident occurred when a “large bird” flew in front of their vehicle on Clamp Drive at Ernest Lane shortly after 11 a.m. South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that as they were heading west on Clamp Drive, the driver veered off the road. In an attempt to correct the vehicle’s path, they went off the left side of the road and collided with a tree.
The coroner’s office confirmed that Callaham, who was only 17 years old and in the 11th grade, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Kennedy, a 12th grader, was transported to AnMed Hospital where he remains in critical condition. Both students were reportedly on their way to pick up their four-month-old baby from daycare when the crash occurred.
In response to the tragedy, the school organized its annual ‘See You at the Pole’ event on Wednesday morning, encouraging students and community members to come together in prayer for Callaham, Kennedy, and their families.
Superintendent Jason Johns expressed the importance of community support during such difficult times, emphasizing the familial bonds within Anderson District Two.
