Jannai Allen, a 30-year-old resident of Westbury, lost his life after becoming trapped in his vehicle, which caught fire following a collision in Hicksville on Saturday night, according to Nassau police. Miguel Nolasco, 42, from Roosevelt, has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the incident.
The accident occurred around 11:20 p.m. as Allen was driving a 2014 Subaru east on Prospect Avenue. He attempted to turn left onto Cantiague Rock Road when his vehicle collided with a 2005 Honda driven by Nolasco, who was heading west on Prospect Avenue.
Following the crash, Allen’s Subaru was engulfed in flames, and he was pronounced dead at the scene after being unable to escape.
Nolasco sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Police reported that he was under the influence at the time of the accident and subsequently arrested.
He faces several charges, including second-degree vehicular manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter, and driving while intoxicated. Nolasco is expected to be arraigned as soon as his medical condition allows.
The investigation into the incident remains active, according to police officials.
