On September 20, 2024, Ronald Allen Troskoski, 31, of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot during a confrontation with police in Christiansburg, Virginia. The Virginia State Police (VSP) identified Troskoski after the incident, where he was wanted on multiple charges in both York County, Pennsylvania, and Montgomery County, Virginia.
The incident began when 911 dispatchers received a call reporting a suspicious person near Viewland Circle, in the Mud Pike area of Montgomery County, close to the Christiansburg town limits. Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded and found a man, later identified as Troskoski, who brandished a knife before fleeing. A search began, and officers from Christiansburg Police were called in to assist.
Troskoski was spotted by police around 2:15 p.m. and fled into a wooded area. After officers pursued him, Troskoski emerged from the tree line and aimed a weapon at a Christiansburg police officer. The officer responded by shooting Troskoski. Despite immediate medical aid, he was declared dead at the scene.
The Virginia State Police are continuing their investigation, and the case will be reviewed by the Montgomery County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office once completed.
