Fatal Chicago shooting death of Jesus H. Padilla Romero Jr. – Obituary
A tragic shooting in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago claimed the life of 16-year-old Jesus H. Padilla Romero Jr., a resident of Waukegan, on Friday night. The incident took place near Limas Park in the 2400 block of South Trumbull Avenue, where police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 11:22 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found Romero Jr. lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his lower back. Paramedics rushed him to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition. However, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that he later died from his injuries. An autopsy determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso, and it was ruled a homicide.
According to a witness, several males were seen fleeing the area shortly after the shooting. No arrests have been made, and Area Four detectives are currently investigating.
Romero Jr.’s family and friends remember him for his kindness and generous spirit. Waukegan resident Tatiana Gatica expressed sorrow over his untimely death, sharing that he had gone to Chicago with two friends to get a haircut and never made it home. She recalled how Romero Jr. once aspired to become a police officer but later wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps by taking over the family’s construction business.
Gatica also spoke fondly of his love for spending time with family, playing video games, and his infectious laughter. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support his family, raising over $1,000 so far.
