Fatal Macomb Township, MI crash death of Alex Tsatos – Obituary
Alex Tsatos, 28, lost his life, and three others were injured in a car accident involving a suspected drunk driver last Saturday in Macomb Township, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred at 10:20 p.m. at the intersection of North Avenue and Rochelle Drive, just north of 21 Mile Road. A 36-year-old man was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Impala south on North Avenue when he veered into the northbound lanes, colliding head-on with a 2010 Acura TL.
Alex Tsatos, a backseat passenger in the Acura, was killed in the collision. The driver of the Acura suffered severe injuries, while a second passenger sustained minor injuries. According to reports, Tsatos and his friends were on their way to a birthday party when the crash happened.
The driver of the Impala, who is suspected of driving under the influence, was also injured and taken to a local hospital. Authorities detected the smell of alcohol on the 36-year-old, who has since been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing death, and causing serious injury. His bond was set at $500,000, and he faces up to 15 years in prison for each charge.
Witnesses stated that they saw the Impala drift into oncoming traffic before narrowly missing two other vehicles, only to collide with the Acura moments later.
