Authorities in Jackson, Michigan, have apprehended a suspect linked to the fatal drive-by shooting of 17-year-old Kalil Calunga-Rodriguez that occurred over the summer. Jayvion Jahri Hodge, 21, faced arraignment on September 16 for charges of open murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to court documents.
An 18-year-old alleged accomplice, Kamiyah Desiree Mcleain, was arraigned earlier on September 9. She faces charges of evidence tampering, providing false statements to law enforcement, and being an accessory after the fact, as stated by Jackson Police Deputy Chief Sergio Garcia.
Calunga-Rodriguez succumbed to his injuries on June 2 after he was discovered with a gunshot wound in the rear of a residence on Griswold Street. Reports indicate that he was struck in the upper torso. Officers attempted CPR until paramedics arrived and transported him to Henry Ford Jackson Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Investigators claim that Hodge and Calunga-Rodriguez were aware of each other and had been searching for one another due to a prior conflict. The shooting incident unfolded when Hodge located Calunga-Rodriguez on Griswold Street, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.
While Calunga-Rodriguez resided in Lansing, he had a girlfriend living in Jackson, as reported by the police. Hodge was subsequently identified and arrested on September 16 in Jackson without any incidents.
A preliminary hearing for Hodge is slated for October 8 before District Judge Allison Bates. He is currently held at the Jackson County Jail without bond. Mcleain is also incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail, with her bond set at $75,000.
