Christie Campbell, aged 62 and a resident of Pekin, has been confirmed as the victim of a tragic accident that occurred on Thursday morning in rural Pekin. The Tazewell County Coroner’s Office announced her identification on Friday following the incident involving two vehicles.
Emergency services received a call at 9:51 a.m. on Thursday reporting a collision at the intersection of Thompson Road and Illinois Route 29. The crash involved a Toyota passenger vehicle and a semi-truck pulling a trailer. Campbell, who was the only person in the Toyota, was declared dead at the scene at 10:30 a.m.
An autopsy was performed by the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office on Friday, with initial results indicating that Campbell succumbed to multiple blunt force injuries sustained during the crash.
The Illinois State Police, in conjunction with the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office and the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office, are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
