A 19-year-old man, Hugo Alexis Montiel-Sanchez, tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident in east El Paso last week. The incident occurred on September 18 at approximately 8 p.m. at the intersection of 9200 Gateway East and Zaragoza, near the Tony Lama Factory.
According to police, for reasons still under investigation, Montiel-Sanchez accelerated and began traveling at a dangerously high speed. The motorcycle veered off the roadway and struck the surrounding landscape.
Montiel-Sanchez was thrown from the bike and sustained severe injuries. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have indicated that excessive speed is suspected to have played a significant role in the crash. This incident marks the 45th traffic-related fatality of the year, a decrease compared to 55 fatalities recorded in 2023.
