James Bailey Maxwell, 74, has been identified as the pilot who tragically died in a plane crash while battling the Falls Fire in Oregon. Maxwell’s single-engine air tanker went missing on Thursday while assisting firefighting efforts in the Malheur National Forest.
Authorities discovered the crash site near the fire on Friday. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Maxwell’s identity on Sunday.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash.
