A tragic rollover accident in Griffith Park early Sunday morning resulted in one death and three injuries. The incident occurred around 12:50 a.m. on the connector road linking the eastbound SR-134 Freeway to the southbound I-5 Freeway, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.
Emergency responders pronounced 19-year-old Aileen Ruiz dead at the scene, while three men were rushed to a local hospital. As of the latest reports, one of the hospitalized victims is in grave condition, and the others are in critical condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
When authorities arrived, they discovered a white sedan that had overturned and was partially obstructing the rightmost lane, with the vehicle described as being “cut apart by fire.” The impact of the crash ejected one individual from the car, while two others were trapped inside. Firefighters used hydraulic tools to extricate the victims, with the fourth occupant managing to escape on their own.
Investigators stated that the 20-year-old driver lost control of the sedan while traveling south on I-5, causing it to veer right and collide with a metal guardrail, leading to the rollover. Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
