Fatal Bath County crash death of Troy Caldwell – Obituary
Troy Caldwell, a 54-year-old tow truck driver, tragically lost his life in a crash on Interstate 64 in Bath County on Wednesday evening. Caldwell was loading a vehicle onto his rollback tow truck when he was struck by a westbound semitruck.
Kentucky State Police reported that Caldwell was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semitruck, 29-year-old Shodmon Yuldashev from Brooklyn, New York, has been charged in connection with the incident. Authorities discovered a tablet on Yuldashev’s dashboard and believe he was watching YouTube videos at the time of the crash. He is also charged with tampering with physical evidence after allegedly attempting to power off the device and hide it during the police inspection.
Caldwell’s friends and colleagues remember him fondly, noting his dedication to safety and his willingness to help others. Fellow tow truck driver Bubba Johnson described Caldwell as “Mr. Safety,” always taking precautions to ensure everyone’s well-being at accident scenes. Morehead Police Chief Derrick Blevins echoed these sentiments, highlighting Caldwell’s helpful nature and the significant loss felt by the community.
