Fatal Virginia Beach Oceanfront drowning death of Santos Olcot Ajbal – Obituary
Santos Olcot Ajbal, one of three men swept out to sea while swimming at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront on the night of September 21, has passed away, according to Virginia Beach police. Officers were called to the Boardwalk at 16th Street shortly before 8:30 p.m. in response to reports of a drowning.
Ajbal, 24, was rescued from the water and taken to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Two other men, 22-year-old Sergio Olcot Ajbal and 22-year-old Sergio Xinico, remained missing as recovery teams searched. The efforts, involving multiple agencies, had to be paused due to rough sea conditions but resumed the next day.
On September 23, police responded to 17th Street after reports of a body in the ocean. The individual was identified as Sergio Olcot Ajbal. The following morning, another body, later identified as Sergio Xinico, was found near 30th Street.
Officials have stated there is no suspicion of foul play in this tragic incident. Guilmer Olcot Ajbal, brother to two of the deceased men, has created a GoFundMe to help cover funeral costs. He shared that they had been enjoying the sunset before the sudden wave swept them into deeper waters.
