The Harris County police have confirmed that the remains discovered in a Lexus SUV involved in a pipeline explosion belonged to 51-year-old Jonathan McEvoy, a Deer Park resident. The incident occurred when McEvoy’s vehicle allegedly crashed into an above-ground pipeline valve, leading to a massive fire that raged for four days, prompting evacuations for nearby residents.
According to McEvoy’s former wife, he left their home on September 16 to visit Walmart and did not return. She speculated that he may have experienced a seizure, as he had been having them intermittently in the months prior to the incident. The crash site was situated next to the Walmart on Spencer Highway.
Authorities reported that forensic experts identified McEvoy’s remains using radiography comparison, which examines skeletal structures in both ante and post-mortem images. However, details regarding the cause and manner of his death have not been disclosed.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with police noting that McEvoy’s vehicle veered off the highway, breached a chain-link fence, and collided with the pipeline valve. The explosion resulted in extensive damage, displacing neighbors who returned to find their vehicles melted and their homes affected by water damage from firefighting efforts. Fortunately, there were no additional injuries or fatalities reported.
