Fatal Brookfield freeway crash death of Mary Phillips – Obituary
Mary Phillips, a 93-year-old woman from Colgate, Wisconsin, was killed in a car crash on Interstate 94 in Brookfield on Monday, September 30. The Wisconsin State Patrol confirmed the crash occurred at around 4:10 p.m. on the westbound side of the freeway near Moorland Road.
Phillips was a passenger in a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee that lost control after striking the median wall. The vehicle then crossed multiple lanes of traffic and collided with a concrete barrier on the right shoulder. All three occupants of the vehicle were taken to the hospital, where Phillips was pronounced dead. Two other women, ages 57 and 70, suffered injuries but are expected to recover.
State Patrol officers have confirmed the crash was not caused by a hit-and-run, contrary to initial witness reports. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
