Fatal Birmingham homicide death of Dempsey Chevoit Smith – Obituary
The body of a 40-year-old Birmingham man, Dempsey Chevoit Smith, was found on Thursday morning, October 1, on the campus of Jefferson State Community College. Smith’s identity was confirmed through fingerprint analysis by the coroner.
Birmingham police were called to the scene around 9 a.m. in the 3000 block of Jefferson State Parkway after a person collecting cans discovered the decomposed body near the recreation center parking lot. Following an initial investigation, the coroner ruled the death a homicide, and an autopsy revealed that Smith had been shot.
