The 58-year-old was discovered dead on Saturday, according to Lansdale Police. Wister, who originally opened his barbecue business as Smoke Daddy’s Home Grown Barbecue in 2017, was a cherished member of the community and an entrepreneurial spirit in the restaurant industry.
Lansdale Police Chief Mike Trail expressed condolences to Wister’s family, emphasizing the impact of his loss on the community. As part of the standard procedure for unattended deaths, Wister’s case has been referred to the coroner’s office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Reports indicate that Wister had been battling a short illness.
Wister is survived by his son, Michael J. Wister, who intends to continue the family business, and his ex-wife, Diana Bromiley. His obituary highlighted Wister’s passion for barbecue, which began with a simple Walmart smoker over 20 years ago. Wister was also an enthusiast of music and vintage cars, particularly proud of his Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.
