In a tragic incident on August 26, 2024, 55-year-old Carson Heath, a Marine veteran, lost his life after being struck by a pickup truck driven by 40-year-old Iurie Trofim. The collision occurred around 11 p.m. near Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, situated approximately 17 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip.
Authorities reported that Trofim’s Ram 1500 pickup truck collided with Heath while he was riding his Yamaha motorcycle. Despite immediate emergency assistance, Heath was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the incident, Trofim fled but was later tracked down due to a witness who observed him driving erratically before veering off the road.
Trofim was arrested and charged with several offenses, including DUI resulting in death, but was released on a $10,000 bail shortly after. During his subsequent court appearance on September 3, he was absent, and his attorney entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf. It has since been revealed that Trofim may have fled to his home country of Moldova, prompting outrage from Heath’s family over his perceived flight risk and the circumstances surrounding his release.
