Carlos Cozart Yarbrough dies in fatal Knoxville shooting
The deadly shooting of Carlos Cozart Yarbrough, 41, occurred in a Northwest Knoxville parking lot on Tuesday night.
According to the Knoxville Police Department (KPD), officers responded to the incident near Minnesota Avenue and Pascal Drive around 10:15 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Yarbrough suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to UT Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
KPD reported that a group of people had gathered in a parking lot on Minnesota Avenue when the shooter emerged from nearby dumpsters and fired into the crowd, striking Yarbrough. While investigators believe the shooting was targeted, there is currently no evidence indicating that Yarbrough was the intended victim.
Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and plan to re-canvass the area to identify potential witnesses or additional evidence. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is still in the early stages. Authorities urge anyone with information to reach out to East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers.
