A tragic incident occurred early Wednesday morning in Lehigh County when Donald E. Guldin, a 57-year-old man from Macungie, lost his life after his motorcycle collided with a deer. The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office confirmed Guldin was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:04 a.m. on October 2.
According to Pennsylvania State Police in Bethlehem, the accident took place shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Route 100 near Windy Road in Lowhill Township. The collision resulted in the closure of the northbound lanes of Route 100 for nearly three hours as authorities conducted their investigation. Traffic was redirected onto Route 100 south, with all lanes reopening by 8:12 a.m.
The incident was particularly notable as it marked the second motorcycle fatality involving a deer in Lehigh County within just 24 hours. The day prior, on October 1, Frederick R. Brauchle III, a 64-year-old from Heidelberg Township, was also killed in a similar accident when his motorcycle struck a deer on Mountain Road in Washington Township. Both fatalities were ruled accidental, with blunt force trauma to the head being the cause of death in each case.
The investigation into Guldin’s accident remains active, with assistance from the Pennsylvania State Police’s Troop M Forensic Services Unit, the Fogelsville Fire Department, and Cetronia Emergency Medical Services.
