Fatal Columbia I-77 crash deaths of Shayna Stukes and Robert Licata – Obituaries

In a tragic turn of events, two individuals lost their lives in separate accidents on Interstate 77 in Richland County, South Carolina, on Wednesday night. The first incident occurred around 9:20 p.m. when a 2005 Ford Mustang veered off the southbound lanes near the 15-mile marker in Columbia. The car flipped over, resulting in the death of a passenger, identified as 20-year-old Shayna M. Stukes from Gaston. The driver’s condition remains unknown, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

 

Just under two hours later, at approximately 11:15 p.m., another fatal crash took place on the northbound side of I-77. A 2012 Chrysler 300 and a 2019 Harley-Davidson motorcycle were traveling together when the motorcycle collided with the rear of the Chrysler at the 12-mile marker, close to the junction with Forest Drive near Fort Jackson. The rider, 37-year-old Robert T. Licata from Lugoff, was pronounced dead at the scene. The specifics of whether Licata was wearing a helmet or if seat belts were utilized by those in the vehicles have not been disclosed, and the investigation into this crash is ongoing.

 

So far this year, 689 people have died on South Carolina roads, with 42 fatalities reported in Richland County alone.
