Montgomery County police have identified 53-year-old Dominique Mwepu as the victim of a deadly pedestrian accident that took place on Monday evening in Gaithersburg. According to a police report, the incident occurred around 7:55 p.m. at the intersection of Frederick Road and High Point Drive, involving a blue Honda Prelude and Mwepu, who was on foot.
Responding officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel found Mwepu with life-threatening injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle remained on-site and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
According to a GoFundMe campaign, Mwepu had recently moved his family into a new home and was returning a U-Haul truck when the accident occurred. The fundraiser, aimed at supporting his wife Mireille and son Joshua, has raised over $5,600.
