Austin Stanek dies in fatal Island Lake hit-and-run crash
Fatal Island Lake hit-and-run death of Austin Stanek – Obituary
Austin Stanek, 24, of Island Lake, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident last Friday night. Authorities say Stanek was walking with a group on the 4300 block of Roberts Road around 10:48 p.m. when he was struck by a white vehicle that fled the scene. Stanek was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in North Barrington, where he was pronounced dead.
Stanek, a 2018 Wauconda High School graduate, was remembered for his ability to bring people together. Friends and family have started a fundraiser to establish a scholarship in his name, honoring his positive spirit and welcoming nature.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office has identified a person of interest but has not yet made any arrests. Investigators are still gathering evidence and are urging anyone with information to contact them at (815) 338-2144.
