Marilyn Jean Drebenstedt dies in fatal Des Moines County crash
Fatal Des Moines County crash death of Marilyn Jean Drebenstedt – Obituary
Marilyn Jean Drebenstedt, an 87-year-old woman from Mediapolis, tragically passed away in a car accident near Middletown on October 1. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the incident occurred around 1 p.m. on US Highway 34 when Drebenstedt was driving a 2012 Kia Sorento.
Witnesses reported that she stopped and began reversing on the highway before attempting to turn left onto a crossover near mile marker 255. Unfortunately, she turned directly in front of an oncoming semitruck, which struck the driver’s side door of her vehicle. The Iowa State Patrol noted that the crossover had a “No U-Turn” sign posted at the location.
Despite wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, Drebenstedt sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
