Fatal Somerset train accident death of Lukasz Edward Yanicko – Obituary
Lukasz (Kaz) Edward Yanicko, 34, tragically died after being hit by a train early Thursday morning in Somerset, Kentucky. Emergency crews were called to the area near West Columbia and Mill streets after Norfolk Southern reported that a pedestrian had been struck by a locomotive.
According to Pulaski County Coroner Clyde Strunk, Yanicko was found sitting beside the tracks when the train’s engineer spotted him. The train was heading southbound, and Yanicko’s injuries suggested he was struck by the side of the train, rather than being run over, resulting in a fatal head injury. His body has been sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.
The Somerset Fire Department, Somerset Police, and local EMS were all involved in the search and response, using both foot patrols and drone technology to locate Yanicko.
