In a tragic event on October 3, 2024, 17-year-old Nathan Ockleberry was killed during a disturbance that escalated into a shooting in northwest Austin. The incident took place outside a shopping center on Research Boulevard near Spicewood Springs Drive.
Authorities reported that a large gathering occurred in the parking lot when tensions flared, resulting in gunfire. Ockleberry was identified as the victim who lost his life in the incident, while two other men sustained injuries. The shooter fled the scene in a vehicle and is currently at large.
This incident marks the 49th homicide in Austin for 2024. Law enforcement is urging anyone with information related to the shooting to reach out to the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS or contact Capital Area Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477, where a reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
