Fatal Springtown motorcycle crash death of Joshua Brandes – Obituary.
Joshua Brandes, a dedicated equipment operator and paramedic with the Irving Fire Department, tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident while off duty on Tuesday. The crash occurred on Farm-to-Market Road 51 South near Browder Road, close to Springtown.
According to the Irving Fire Department, Springtown police were first on the scene after reports of a severe crash. Eyewitnesses indicated that an 18-wheeler had stopped to wait for traffic before attempting to turn left. A line of vehicles, including a truck with a trailer, had halted behind the semi. As Brandes approached the stopped cars on his motorcycle, he reportedly looked down and did not see the vehicles ahead of him.
In a last-minute effort to avoid crashing into the trailer, Brandes swerved left but ended up colliding head-on with a Cadillac after hitting the back of the trailer and injuring his leg. Witnesses mentioned that a shed on the trailer obstructed oncoming traffic’s view of the motorcycle, giving them no chance to avoid the collision.
Emergency responders quickly applied a tourniquet to Brandes’ leg and performed CPR, but he succumbed to his injuries. The loss has deeply affected his colleagues, with Springtown City Administrator and Director of Public Safety David Miller expressing condolences for the family and friends mourning this unexpected tragedy.
Brandes had served with the Irving Fire Department for over 13 years and also held a position as a reserve police officer in Decatur. Members of the Irving Fire Department Honor Guard are currently guarding his body until burial. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, led by the Springtown Police Department.
