On October 3, 2024, 65-year-old Steven Kretsinger from Eugene tragically lost his life in a small plane accident while attempting to land at George Felt Airport, located on Felt Street in Charter Oaks. Witnesses reported the crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. as the pilot was making a landing in a small yellow fixed-wing aircraft.
According to a report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Kretsinger’s first landing attempt was unsuccessful, leading him to circle back for another try. Unfortunately, during this second attempt, the plane bounced off the ground, collided with a tree, and nosedived back to the ground.
Emergency services, including deputies, firefighters, and medical personnel from Central Douglas Fire and Rescue and Umpqua Valley Ambulance, quickly arrived at the scene. Kretsinger was pronounced dead upon their arrival. No additional details have been provided by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
