In a violent incident late Wednesday night, 28-year-old Vailena Koloamatangi was shot four times in Winston Hills, Western Sydney. Emergency services responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Dale Place, where Koloamatangi was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds.
Paramedics treated him at the scene before transporting him to the hospital, where he is currently in serious but stable condition under police guard. Authorities have revealed that Koloamatangi has been previously targeted in assassination attempts, making him well-known to detectives.
In a notable previous incident on September 12, 2023, Koloamatangi and a companion were ambushed in an underground parking lot in Campsie, where an assailant fired at them but missed. Additionally, he survived another shooting in Merrylands in 2020, with no suspects apprehended.
Local residents initially mistook the sound of gunfire for fireworks until they saw the police and emergency vehicles swarm the area. Approximately ten minutes after the shooting, officers responded to a car fire on Redbank Road in Northmead, where a Jeep Grand Cherokee was found ablaze. The vehicle has since been seized for forensic examination.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern of gang-related violence in Sydney, which has seen a surge of targeted shootings since 2020 due to conflicts between rival criminal organizations.
